Darvocet, also known as propoxyphene/acetaminophen, was a brand name medication that contained a combination of two active ingredients: propoxyphene and acetaminophen. Propoxyphene is an opioid pain reliever, while acetaminophen is a non-opioid pain reliever and fever reducer.
However, I must inform you that Darvocet has been withdrawn from the market in many countries, including the United States, due to safety concerns. In 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested the removal of propoxyphene-containing products from the market due to the risk of serious and potentially fatal heart rhythm abnormalities.
Propoxyphene, the opioid component of Darvocet, was found to have limited analgesic efficacy and an unfavorable risk-to-benefit profile compared to other available pain medications. As a result, its use has been discontinued in many parts of the world.
If you have been prescribed Darvocet in the past, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider for alternative pain management options. They can evaluate your condition and recommend appropriate and safer alternatives based on your specific needs.
Please note that this information is accurate as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021. It is advisable to consult current medical resources or healthcare professionals for the most up-to-date information regarding Darvocet.
